In the world of Shonen jump anime there are superstars such as Naruto, Dragon Ball, and Jujutsu Kaisen, these all are fantastic in their own right but none compare to the thriller Death Note. Death Note was an idea held by Mangka writer Tsugumi Ohba with the initial thought of wanting a high school student to obtain a supernatural power. Ohba wanted to comment on justice, ethics, and power with this story. This idea was brought to light by illustrator Takeshi Obata’s other worldly designs for the Anime.
Death Note is about a high school student named Light Yagami who is very bored with his life and one day in class sees a notebook fall out the sky and he discovers the name of the note book, Death Note. The Death Note brings philosophical questions like justice, power, ideology, and morality. This anime raises questions like “what is justice” or “when do the ends justify the means.”
Death Note while being apart of Shonen Jump doesn’t have any fight scenes, instead relying on strategy and intellect. Light while using the Death Note has to bypass many obstacles and on the forefront a battle of pride itself. With two philosophies stemming from the same point, justice. Death Note might have no fights but with the amazing visuals, story telling, and mind puzzling decisions it will keep you locked in on the screen.
In conclusion Death Note is special you will not find an anime that will be similar to this anime in Shonen Jump. Death Note is definitely an anime you should watch if interested, you won’t regret it.
