The Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country teams competed in the Johnson County Championships the previous Saturday. To recap the progress of the teams, GCN reached out to the head coach, Mr. Jeff Powers, for comment on each team.
Regarding the boys’ team, Powers stated that “our boys’ team is a competitive group with high aspirations this year. Currently, they are ranked 21st in the state as we head into the Mid State Conference Meet.” Demonstrating these high aspirations, junior Liam Fennig placed 2nd, followed by seniors Isiah Tunis and Luke Holcroft in 9th and 10th, and junior Luca Doyle in 14th. The team placed 2nd overall.
Concurrently, Powers commented on the girls’ team, saying that “our girls’ team is a mix of mostly young, inexperienced runners and veteran seniors. Their progress this season has been fun to watch with personal records in every meet.” Freshman Adri Sichting led the girls in 6th place, and senior Willa Thomas in 10th. The team placed 3rd overall.
Both teams will return to the course on September 27th at 8:30 am at the Franklin XC Course for the Mid-State Conference Championships.
