Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is a kart racer developed by SEGA, released on September 25th, 2025. The game features the Sonic gang racing through various worlds and encountering other characters from multiple SEGA IPs and video games.
The gameplay is quite similar to other video game kart racers; however, it still feels smooth and fun to play. The items are very similar to Mario Kart; however, some bring new twists, like the buzz saw that cuts your kart in half, or the laser ability, which allows you to jump up to 5 to 6 players. Overall, the racing feels smooth and fun to play, which, in my opinion, is the most important thing for a kart racer to do.
The graphics look amazing, and the visuals effectively convey the themes of each track. Each Track ranges from a vast flower field to a dark and creepy pirate ship. Each track feels unique and different from the last, which was very enjoyable as a player.
The selection of characters is extremely broad, featuring many characters from the most well-known to the somewhat obscure characters of Sonic’s cast of characters, which I like a lot. I also enjoy the inclusion of other characters from other franchises, like SpongeBob and Minecraft Steve, which gives players more options, and I like it a lot. However, I’m not a huge fan of the game making these racers paid DLC. This feels extremely greedy with the game already having 70$ price point, making the game feel like it’s more money than it’s worth.
In conclusion, I think overall Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is a great kart racer, but it is held down by a $70 price point and paid DLC that feels greedy. 6/10
