Batman Begins was released in 2005 as the first movie of the Dark Knight trilogy. The movie dives deep into the Batman story and explores Batman as a character and his origin. Batman is played by Christian Bale.
After Bruce’s parents’ death, Bruce decides to travel to the far east to train in the martial arts under the League of Shadows. When the League of Shadows reveals its purpose, which is to destroy Gotham, Wayne returns to Gotham with a plan to rid it of its crime without resorting to murder. Wayne gets help from Alfred (his butler, played by Michael Caine) and Lucious Fox (played by Morgan Freeman) to become the well-beloved Batman. He sets off on his journey and runs into his first enemy, the Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy), as he tries to stop him from implementing his plan to contaminate the water with his fear toxin, and then using a microwave emitter to vaporize the water and aerosolize the toxin across the city. Batman is able to save the city along with James Gordon (Gary Oldman).
This movie is a great beginning to Batman’s origin and displays his backstory in a captivating way, leaving you feeling empathy for Wayne and hope for him as well. Not only is Wayne portrayed in a great way, but Batman is as well. He is as mysterious as always, and his suit is very well designed by Fox. You get a perfect ratio of Wayne and Batman, seeing how Wayne acts around people vs. how he acts when he is Batman, is always interesting to see.
Another great character is the Scarecrow. He is an intimidating first villain and definitely sets up a threat towards Batman. He uses his fear toxins to bring out Batman’s greatest fears, which makes Batman face them and get over them. Scarecrow allows great character development towards Wayne, while also being a great villain in itself.
Overall, this movie is a wonderful movie, and I recommend that you watch it if you are a big Batman fan. The story is very well thought out and well developed, and definitely won’t leave you disappointed.
