We’ve Got Spirit, Yes We Do: Week 2

Weekly updates on Student Council and FCHS Blue Crew.

Senior Kellen Shaff leads the FCHS Blue Crew in a spirited roller coaster cheer at the August 16th scrimmage against Roncalli.

Franklin Community High School has always been a place where students can experience that certain “Rah-Rah!” feeling. The Student Council, in years past, has been the voice of the student body that makes this spirit come alive, planning events and coordinating changes that make the high school experience more enjoyable. However, no club says school spirit more than the FCHS Blue Crew. Composed of every student who spectates a sporting event, assistance from the cheerleaders, and 5 fearless leaders, the Blue Crew is in charge of managing student section themes and keeping the energy flowing throughout every game. Both Blue Crew and Student Council are consistently working and creating opportunities for the student body to embrace what is commonly believed to be “cringey” and make their version of “the good ‘ole days.” Since not everyone is a part of the Student Council or is a Blue Crew leader, GCN has dedicated this series to updating the student body about upcoming Student Council events, spirit turnouts, and other mentions of school spirit. Stay tuned for more updates throughout the school year.

STUDENT COUNCIL UPDATE
This previous week, the Student Council hosted a large group meeting on Wednesday morning. In this meeting, they discussed the upcoming homecoming event schedule, brainstormed decoration ideas for the class hallways. This year’s homecoming theme is “Sea You At Homecoming,” otherwise known as Under The Sea. The hallways range in a variety of themes, from mermaids to shipwrecks. Throughout the homecoming week, there will be multiple events and spirit days, as seen in the flyer below. The main dance will be on the 28th of September, so get your dancing shoes ready. Stay tuned for more weekly updates on the FCHS Student Council!

RONCALLI SCRIMMAGE

There were a split amount of reps between offense and defense, with 100 plays total. The strengths of the offense were the run game, and short pass plays. Greyson Betts (QB) had his best passing performance, with only 2 incomplete passes. While on the defense, the d-line had a strong impact with senior leader Blake Smythe (DT), and junior Thristian Shannon (DE). The secondary struggled with Roncalli’s pass game. The student section had a pretty large turnout, with many dressed in theme. Beginning the next football game, we will be having a personal DJ in the press box, who will play specific songs that we ask for. So, if you have certain songs that you would like played, contact Hanna Stewart at [email protected], Tik Tok direct messages (fchsbluecrew), or Instagram (grizcubbluecrew). There will be polls posted on our Blue Crew’s Instagram, discussing any theme changes, as well as different ways to fundraise. So, be looking for the polls, so that your voice and ideas can be heard!
