On Tuesday, August 19th, the FCHS Boys’ Soccer team was scheming for a win.
Following a 2-14-2 season this previous year, the Grizzly Cubs were seeking a win to set the course of their 25-26 season. The boys approached the field with a burning passion and a newfound focus on the unity of the team, prioritizing touch passes and communication amongst players on the field. The Golden Bears were agile and calculated, but they were no match for the invigorated varsity team.
After the first 10 minutes of play, the game was halted due to a lightning delay for approximately 30 minutes, during which both teams focused on maintaining their driven inertia. Walking from the lightning shelter of the high school, the Grizzly Cubs reflected their focus on unity by walking in 2 composed lines towards the soccer field.
During the remaining period of play until the half, Senior Gavin Fugate scored a goal against a wall of Shelbyville defenders, which prompted roars from the supporting crowd of parents and the student section. The Golden Bears counteracted this point with a penalty kick, to which Senior Colin Anderson attempted to halt.
As more people trickled in from the volleyball game, the energy and momentum multiplied. Senior Aybram Moore used this electricity (both crowd energy and the remnants of the lightning) to his advantage as he scored Franklin’s second goal. This put the Cubs in the lead against the Bears, where they inevitably did not recover.
The Grizzly Cubs will be back in action this Thursday, August 21, against the Greenwood Woodmen at 7:20 pm at Greenwood Community High School.
