After many years of grey, depressing movies from the world of DC, James Gunn’s first steps into the world of Superman already breathe life into the DC universe and the world of film itself.
Superman (2025) begins a new era for the DC universe with its first outing featuring the Man of Steel himself. The film quickly shows that this is not the Superman that Zach Snyder portrayed on screen; this version of the character sees life in everything and believes all things deserve to be saved. This is shown multiple times throughout the movie, for example, when Superman saves a squirrel during a fight with a massive kaiju. Along with the emotional acting of the lead star, David Corenswet makes this version of Superman feel like a true hero, someone who is willing to put their life on the line for the people.
This is greatly contrasted with the films Lex Luther played by the brilliant Nicholas Hoult, who is truly evil, hating Superman simply due to the fact of his being an alien and more popular than him, truly giving a villain worth hating.
The rest of the cast, from Mr. Terrific, played by Edi Gathegi, to Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern, played by Nathan Fillion, all do astounding jobs with their characters. Every part of this movie feels like it was lifted straight from a comic book, from the characters to the action, all of it felt right from the page, which is one of the first times in a while I’ve felt that way about a superhero movie
Superman 2025 is must see, probably, in my opinion, one of the best movies of the year, so definitely go check it out. 9/10
