Ring out the bells, because good news is here! On January 20, 2026, Universal Orlando announced that Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will be replaced by the Fast and Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster that’s currently at Universal Hollywood, which brings about news that the Universal fans have been waiting for since 2018–Fast and Furious: Supercharged will officially and permanently close in 2027.
Fast and Furious: Supercharged first opened in Universal Studios Hollywood on June 25, 2015 as an end to the studio tour, with a complete version coming to Orlando in 2018. The Hollywood attraction saw its last day in March of last year, and the Orlando version has remained one of the most hated rides in the park.

Located in the San Francisco section of Universal Studios Florida, the indoor dark ride has guests riding a party bus in a high speed chase against the franchise’s antagonist, Owen Shaw, along with the rest of the Fast & Furious gang. The ride has been highly criticized over the years for its lack of entertainment value and its subpar motion simulation, and many would rather appreciate the ride’s elaborate queue than ride the 3 minute let down. (Personally I’ve always wondered how Vin Diesel manages to be the same size as a helicopter.) Parkgoers have long awaited the day this ride would meet its end, and the announcement of its demolition brought much excitement to theme park forums.
Hollywood Ripe Ride Rockit closed in August of 2025, and fans have eagerly awaited the announcement of its replacement. Universal Orlando has been regularly posting updates on the construction of Hollywood Drift, and the process has been exciting. The coaster is set to open in 2027, aligning with the closure of Fast and Furious: Supercharged. There has been much speculation as to what will replace the utter disappointment, but personally I think anything will be better than what we have now. Universal Destinations & Experiences has announced Pokémon attractions coming to all parks around the globe, so there is a chance this new development could take over Supercharged’s skeleton. However, it is rumored that the new Pokémon attraction is likely to take over the Lost Continent section of Islands of Adventure.

What’s to come for Universal? Fans are unsure. But this is news many have waited for for a long time. Right now, I aim to enjoy the end of a terrible era.
