Cell Phone Legislation Passes Indiana Senate
On January 20, 2026, the Indiana Senate passed a new bill aiming to tighten the cell phone policy in schools. This law would require all public schools to implement one of two models to execute the law: a “No Device Policy,” where students may not bring cell phones or smart watches on campus at all, or a “Secure Storage Policy,” to make cell phones inaccessible throughout the entire school day, per Indiana Capital Chronicle. The proposed law would take effect on July 1st, 2026.

Super Bowl 60
On Sunday, February 8th, the New England Patriots will face off against the Seattle Seahawks. The game will kick off at 6:30 PM. The last time the Patriots were in the Super Bowl was 2018, with Tom Brady taking snaps under center. Seattle’s last trip to the Super Bowl was a loss against the New England Patriots in 2015. They will look to get their revenge against the Patriots this year.

Two Texas Teens Die in Sledding Accident
On Sunday January 25, 2026 two 16 year old girls died following a sledding accident in Frisco, Texas during a winter storm. According to the Frisco police department, a Jeep Wrangler driven by 16 year old boy was pulling the girls on the sled through a neighborhood when the sled hit a curb and collided with a tree. Both girls suffered life threatening injuries and were taken to the local hospital. Elizabeth died at the hospital the day of the crash, and Gracie who had been in critical condition passed away days later.
Authorities have said there is no indication that alcohol was involved in this incident and the Denton County District Attorney’s Office is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Minecraft’s upcoming update
Minecraft players are buzzing as Mojang previews its first major update, expected to arrive late March 2026. The next game drop, unofficially called the “Spring Drop,” will bring a new revamped look to baby mobs, complete with unique models, sounds, and animations that make many mobs feel more truly alive in the world.
In addition to looks, quality of life improvements like craftable name tags aim to ease everyday play and make pet management simpler.
Players can already sample upcoming features through Java snapshots and bedrock previews, but the full stable release is anticipated with Minecraft’s late spring launch window.

Does Highguard Deserve the Hate?
Throughout the history of The Game Awards, the final game trailer always had the biggest reveal and the most hype, but this year was different. The final game reveal was lackluster and received poorly by the community, with the game Highguard as the reveal. 3 days ago, the game was released, and within an hour, the game already had an overwhelmingly negative rating on Steam, with some people calling it Concord 2 (a game that was shut down 2 weeks after launch).

Commodore 64 Re-release
There has been a rerelease of the ancient 8 bit computer, the commodore 64 in all of its beige plastic clickity clackity glory.
With an upgraded 128 megabytes of ram, compared to the former 64 kilobytes, it’s an upgrade. It includes a custom USB stick in the shape of a cassette with over 100 games and a graphical operating system called GEOS, which was capable of managing to create a graphical user interface using only 64 kilobytes, breaking the original Macintosh’s 128 kilobytes. It also includes a classic spiral manual with a detailed guide on how to use the computer.

UK-China Trade Meeting
On Thursday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Beijing to reconcile years of tension and improve trade relations in the wake of a more volatile United States. From suspicions of espionage to restricting Hong Kong’s freedoms, the United Kingdom and China have had a tumultuous relationship in the past few years. NPR reports that the meeting between the leaders lasted 80 minutes, which was double the intended time. Some results of the meeting include cutting tariffs and visa-free travel for British citizens. Prime Minister Starmer claims that the UK and China are now in “a good place, a strong place.” The UK is just one of many traditional US allies to meet with China, including South Korea, Finland, and Canada, AP reported.
