Throughout the school year thus far, teachers in the arts department have been combing out students’ art pieces as projects and seasons would progress. Drawings, pastel-drawn pieces, hand-carved ink prints, layered paper drawings, paper-mache projects, and even some clay pieces were picked up by teachers like Miss Garrett and Miss Park. The purpose? Submissions for the Brown County Art Show!

Every year, annually, Brown County asks a combination of middle and high schools across Indiana for student-made pieces to be submitted to their art show. It’s a fun way to get people to engage with communities beyond their own, and marvel at the creativity that fluctuates amongst students of all age groups. Many students, namely seniors, were asked to participate, 2 projects of my own even participating.

Each piece fell into 1 category. Categories ranged from drawing to 3D art, with most pieces being granted a spot for display. In order to be displayed, students filled out a form consenting to their art being shown and one that labeled what they, the student, believed the piece fell under category-wise. The form also allowed students to set a price for their piece – if they wanted to sell it.

As a participant, you were invited to attend the Award Ceremony that took place at the Art Show on the 8th. While nominated, I was unable to attend. Students such as myself, Lucy Mercer, and Ruby Wuertz all walked away with $150 check prizes for 1st placings in our nominated categories. I won under both the drawing and 3D categories I was nominated for, and wound up totaling $300 worth of winnings.

The Brown County Art Show is still taking place. If you are interested in going down to look at classmates or even your own work, feel free to stop by!
