Last Friday at 4 am in the morning, the almost finished Compass Park Retirement home had a fire incident that left the surrounding residents in shock and in loss. Residents recall waking up at 4 o’clock in the morning and getting told to evacuate immediately. The Franklin Firefighters and mutual aid partners were called to put the flames down and to help at 5:12, just an hour after the fire initially started. The firefighters were attempting to put down the flames but the flames were too much to handle alone. The firefighters had called the surrounding counties to help out put the flames down, as the firefighters of Greenwood, Whiteland, Bargersville, Edinburgh, Needham, Niveveh and White River to come down to help put down the flames.
Out of all the counties available, there was a rough estimate of 60 firefighters at the scene as they all worked together to take down the flames. They all had battled out the fire until roughly 7 am, 3 hours after the fire had initially begun. The unfinished building that got caught was the only one building out of the 3 to initially burn down. According to the Franklin Fire Chief, they had to use over 3 million gallons of water to put down the building’s fire. The authorities currently have no response for how the fire had started with the building almost being completely done. The fire according to one of the residents, that the fire that had happend in the morning has been the worst fire in Franklin since 2003.
