Amazon had just fully released all 8 episodes of Invincible Season 4 which according to the comics, the show is currently halfway in the primary story of invincible. There will be spoilers ahead for the people who haven’t seen the show or the comics so you have been warned.
Season 4 begins right after the Conquest battle at the end of season 3 with Invincible ( played by Steven Yeun) is now finally helping the planet after the Invincible War with all the variants either dead or lost in the wasteland dimension. Majority of the characters from Season 3 return as we also get to see how they were impacted by both of the most recent effects. Mark (Invincible) is planning to take no chances with the world being at risk again after the war and conquests fight as he is not holding back in this season. The first 3 episodes shows us the after effects of the war, showing us what the coalition of planets are planning to do with the remaining viltrumites still remaining, Oliver getting to his teen phase right after he got brutally attacked by Conquest, and seeing more of what Cecil is trying to do to continue helping. In Episode 2 though, the single side episode of the season is all about the Viltrumites as we get to see Nolan as young as Mark and we get to see the Scourage Virus which if you don’t know, is the worst disaster Viltrum has ever seen, killing 99% of all the Viltrumites and just leaving less than 100 viltrumies remain. In episode 3 we also get to find towards the end of the episode, that Eve is pregnant and does not get to tell Mark before he leaves for the war.
Episode 4 is just a filler episode as Mark gets sent to hell to help out some people gain power, and to show us the return of Damien Darkblood, as we see where he had went and he had been doing. Episode 4 sets up the future of Damien’s character as he is giving a second chance to re enter earth and to continue what he had previously done before going back to hell, and it also sets up Episode 5 which is also kind of a side episode, but its more focused on bring the team of super hero’s together to take down the remaining Viltrumites. In episode 5, we get to see this villain of the season, Thragg. Thragg ( voiced by Lee Pace) Is viltrums new leader after their previous leader, Argal, gets killed by a traitor which turns out to be the leader of the coalition of planets, Thaedus (voiced by Peter Cullen). The remaining episodes of the season show us the war of the coalition and viltrum as we find out, that Conquest is alive. Mark and Conquest finally duel it out for the 2nd time and Mark finally gets the upper hand and takes down Conquest by himself. But the effects of that fight is that he is left unconscious and it takes him 2 whole months to get back up to continue fighting. The season ends with Thragg telling Mark that the remaining Viltrumites have gone to earth, and are wanting a peace treaty that they wont attack earth or anything, but to let them breed to bring back the population they once had lost.
In my honest opinion, I think that this season is really good expect some of the parts. I know that the creators of the show are changing the story slightly, as they are still basing it off the comics but doing their own little spin on the season. The animation had finally been approved after last season’s really bad animation until the final couple of episodes, and some of the scenes are played out really well compared to the comics. I really like the character development of Mark this season, which shows him being more serious about being a hero and not holding back until someone has to tell him to stop. My only downside to this season was episode 4. I know that it was a filler for the remainder of the show, but they could’ve made it not boring. I found this episode to be really boring from the entire season as i was asking myself, “Is that what I’ve been waiting to see?”.
But overall, good season, but could’ve had some changes.
9/10
