SNAP Defunded by Trump Administration after Government Shutdown
The US Department of Agriculture plans to freeze funding to the Supplement Nutrition Assistance program, SNAP for short, starting November 1st. Since the government has been shut down they claim they aren’t making the money to keep funding the program. SNAP benefits are a major piece of America’s social security net, serving about 1 in 8 Americans. Giving 42 million people a huge disadvantage on how they will feed themselves or their families. This will increase poverty and hunger, and strain the economy of lower income cities. Democratic governors from 25 states, and the district of Columbia, challenged the plan to pause the program, stating that the Administration has a legal obligation to keep it running. The Trump administration has agreed to pay half of the funds.

Indiana Legislature to Look at Redistricting in December
Indiana’s Republican legislative leaders have announced that they will not meet to discuss the redistricting of state lines until at least December later this year, despite Governor Mike Braun attempting to call for a special session in early November. House Speaker Todd Huston and Indiana’s senate representative Rod Bray both stated that the issue of redistricting will happen some time between December 1st and December 12th. The delay in the decision was justified by our representatives because they claimed that it would allow for more thoughtful consideration of the topic. Further, they believed that it was better to avoid the additional costs of a true special session. According to a report from wthr.com, Indiana representatives went into this approach thinking that it would save taxpayer dollars while still being in the legal time frame allowed for redistricting.
